Default Sea Strike "D"

Hello Rocket Fans,

In purchasing the materials for the SS"D", I bought a balsa nose cone not the plastic. So I don't like using eye screws in balsa. The rocket has upper section of air frame that is 4" long. My plan was to glue the nose cone in this 4" section and the coupler also to the same 4" section, get rid of the eye screw. That shouldn't cause any probs, right? No need for a bulk head either cause the nose cone is doing that job, correct?

You'll still need a bulkhead because the parachutes can be pushed into the upper section by the ejection charge and not deploy.

No other way around this issue. Like connecting the shoot to the center on the shock cord? Thats really what i was planning on doing. But at the same time did not think about the chute getting pushed in to the 4" section with the ejection charge.

So new question then. What is the best glue to use for attaching eye screws to balsa nose cones.

Lancecrafter,

Check out this building technique video posted by Apogee Components. It's an alternative to a solid bulkhead and may be an option for your build.

Al,

Here is a scan of the Sea Strike "D" decal file. It was stashed away in one of my semi-built kits from when I was a kid.

As a scale reference, both the yellow and black bands on the decal sheet are exactly one half inch (1/2") on the original decal sheet.

The Sea Strike "D" is one of my favorite Estes kits. Good luck with the build! Please post pics.

What is interesting on the decal sheet is that the battery access panel decal references a U.S. Air Force manual .... for a U.S. Navy missile.

Default Thanks!

Great timing! I just finished a clone of the Sea Strike courtesy of the plans I found on the net (either at YORS or JimZ, can't recall). A nice build, first 2-stage D for me. Alas, no one had the decals for this!

Default Sea Strike "D" first flight

Booster worked perfectly, second stage ignited, flew awesome. Just wish I knew where she went. At least 20 people watching, none saw her come down. Building the Sea Strike "D" II this month. Must try again. Did get the booster back.
