Because I have the parts
I've got an extra Crossfire kit , so I'm building a Black Brant III. (I already have a Satellite Interceptor and Wildfire in the fleet.) I was, believe it or not, reading through the directions tonight and noticed that the tail cone is glued into place and used as a part of the rocket, even in flight. Does anyone have any experience with how much heat damage can be expected?

With mine I have little. Just don't mount near the blast deflector. I launch mine a few inches above so not to have the blast blowback onto the plastic. Flight ok

I hope to continue my BBIII build thread early next week after my post-surgical visit with the ortho.

I glued the tailcone in on my two original Satellite Interceptors and never had any issue with any sort of heat damage.
Never had a BB III as it was just too plain (as were the Nike-Smoke and V-2....borrrriiinnngggggggg) for my tastes in a scale project. As the previous poster mentioned, make sure you have it sit high enough on the rod during launch that no blast deflector spatter can get back to the plastic.
