Default my next project

I posted this in The Rocketry forum and didn't get much of a response except from a fellow club member.

This is a kit bash of the Estes ATA Sentinal and the Archer/Arrow. Just wondering what you all think. The pic is of my upscale version of the ATA Sentinal.

The upscale visually looks good, but take note of the flight sim data in your RKT file; especially the Dv numbers in the chart (Velocity at Deployment), and the guide length numbers in each individual flight sim (double click the second entry for one that caught my attention). Dv numbers over about 30 FPS mean your parachute stands a greater chance of shredding in an explosive canopy opening.

That E16-4 motor requires a launch tower at least 120", or 10', tall just to get up to a safe flight speed. That's a lot of tower to haul around, and a simple rod just isn't sufficient. Some of the other sims show similar requirements. You need motors that get this rocket to flight-V in less than 40", so you can keep the launch requirements to a 48" x 3/16" rod. That means (probably) core-burning motors with high spikes and short burn times.

Play with RockSim a little more before trying to real-world flight test this model. You'll find the right combination of power / delay easily enough.

And keep posting your changes. That's how you get the feedback you need.

I had the plans for the ATA-31 (?) printed up, but decided to go with the Photon Disruptor instead. Now I wish I'd gone with my original plan. I've also got a 1:1 Sentinel that I cloned last year. Nice performer. Is yours a BT-60 or BT-80?
