Athena inspiration
Here's a little peek at my variation on the Enerjet Athena.
Still got some more painting to do, but it's looking good so far. The nosecone is from Semroc, and was beautifully turned. It uses four tube fins (from a Tuber kit) and has four outboard 13mm motor tubes. The central motor tube is 24mm and includes hooks for securing a burn string. The outboard BT-5 motor tubes fit perfectly between the BT-55 tube fins. I also built an extra adapter that lets me mate the Faux Cineroc section to the BT-55 airframe. This should make a good alternate booster to the traditional Omega-D. Doug .

Kinda like the love child from an Athena/Viking/Cineroc three way. Kinky. I like it.

Tubena

Don Magness (Squirrel Works) made the decals for me. He said he almost added another name to the sheet. To go with Tubena, he was tempted to add Or Not Tubena In the pic below, you get a good look at the silver, 13mm outboard motor tubes between the tube fins. This pic shows the lower launch lug and its standoff. Being a a little vain, I added my name to the lower roll pattern Doug .

Doug; It's a great result, and looks terrific. Maybe Squirrel Works sees a brother for the Totally Tubular?

Wow, Doug! You do NICE work! I mean, right down to the sculpted detail on the launch lug standoff! Talk about a perfectionist! Sheesh!

In all seriousness, I spent little time on the standoffs. IIRC, after the 2nd round of glue to reinforce them, I had two rounds of FnF application, with some light sanding in between, then prime, etc... It's tough to get the FnF just right when you have fillets so close together. Plus, like drywall, it's easier to build up using thin layers, than trying to do it all in one pass. Doug .

(Okay, truth be known, I'm a recovering perfectionist , I suppose like many others here. Part of managing obsessive behavior is having the discipline to set limits, and then stick to them. So all I did was apply a couple rounds of primer to the tubes inside, and then shoot some paint up in there as well. As it was, I dang near ran the paint trying the get enough inside the tubes. I've seen another rocketeer's Tuber with the tube insides painted a contrasting color. I felt that was way too much trouble But it did look kinda kewl ) .
