Default Jayhawk color

Hi all. I'm building an old Estes Pro Series Jayhawk and I'm trying to find the correct color I've seen red and orange but am unsure which is accurate. Any info would help. FSD # would be ideal.
Thanks

I'd be inclined to go with Orange. Testors makes a "Competition Orange" which comes pretty darn close to the orange in the photos.

IIRC, the instructions specify Krylon Madarin Orange.

I definately recall the Madarin Orange as the correct shade, although older Krylon might be tough to come by anymore

Let me know, as I have a pair of these unpainted myself.

+1 for Testors "Competition Orange" it IS the same color as this.
*Note* Competition Orange is ONLY available in the Spray Can; it is NOT the same as the orange in the 1/4 oz bottle. For some reason Testors only makes this color in the Spray and they only offer the "regular" orange in the 1/4oz brush-on bottle.
Testors used to offer this color as a brush-on or for airbrushing in their Butyrate Dope line as well (which I have good cans/jars of) but it has not been production available since the early 1980's in that form. It is available time-to-time on ebay as new-old-stock though.
Aero Gloss Cub Orange is also very close to this color.

Thanks to all. I think it is orange looking at these pics. I've got a set of FSD chips so I think I can match up now.

Unfortunately, this is the only pic I could find of my Quest Aerobee, but take a look at the rocket on the left. I used Competition Orange. Sounds like you have a more accurate method of achieving the desired color(and a way to obtain it), but I still say the Testors color is about as good as it gets.
