Estes Leviathan build question
Bought the subject rocket at Hobby Lobby on clearance and am now building. But I want to put Kevlar in it instead of the
regular tri-fold attachment method. All I have is Kevlar thread, normally suitable for much smaller rockets. What size Kevlar should I get for this one? Or is the thread good enough? I do plan on putting a baffle in if I have one that's big enough. .

all you really need is a 'spacer'/leader to keep the elastic up away from the heat...build a baffle into the tube coupler (a 3-plate (2/3rds moon plates of 1/16 ply) should work and you can use the bits you trim off to reinforce the top plate). I've been using stainless steel fishing leaders for 'mid-power' birds, but 1/8"(2.5mm) Kevlar would work. you want the join between the leader and elastic to be just below the end of the tube to reduce your chances of 'zippering' the tube. I used 500 lb kevlar on all of my Pro Series II builds. If you need a piece of it, PM your mailing address to me.

I say - use the tri-fold and the elastic. My Leviathan served as my L-1 certification bird and it has the tri-fold and elastic in it. It works fine with eight flights so far on SU Estes/Aerotech motors and CTI reloads from F to baby H.
But Jeff's offer is generous one....and worth taking up.

I agree with BEC that Jeffyjeep's offer is very generous. I managed to pick up an Estes Nike Smoke and installed a #600 pound kevlar line. I cut a slot in the side of the upper centering ring and tied the kevlar around the motor tune, threading it through the hole. Will tie or install some sort of buffer where the kevlar exits the body tube to prevent a zipper and use the provided Estes elastic to increase the length of the recovery line.
The trifold will work, but I prefer using the kevlar myself. I don't imagine flying the NS on anything more than a G, but I look at it being more safe than sorry. Chas

I use 100# Kevlar on everything up through Estes PS2 and similar size (MPR). No problems yet. Well, a few zippers, my fault.
