Default A really cool decal tip for Alps printed decal.

I learned this trick a while back so I thought I would share it.

Alps decal ink is wax based so they do tend to scratch easily even if over coated. Especially the black ink.

I picked this up at a "Back To School" sale real cheap.

The "Ultra Fine Tip" ones work the best but the regular tipped black is especially useful.

They are also good to have around for Vern and Gleda to sign your model.

Just find the color that best matches the decal and touch it up.

They work great in the field too!

I have discovered that the ink from Sharpie pens will run if Future (Now Pledge with Future) floor wax is used over Sharpie ink.

I discovered this while applying Future with a foam brush over a decal I had touched up with a Sharpie pen.

Just a word of warning.

The tip was meant for field repairs.

I have always used Sharpies for permanent repairs. The art is to get the color to match the paint or decal using a lighter shade then recoating and blending it in. Harder than blending whiskey. Usually will end up with colorful finger tips – not cool. The best are black rockets and decals, you can always make them look new real quick like.

In grade school my mother made me wash my Addias running shoes often, fading out the blue suede. To avoid ridicule and to maintain coolness I learned how to reink the blue suede shoes to look new again. You had to keep them in good enough shape for the ink to fade a bit before the next wash mandate, or else it was multiple quick washes as the marker ink would run. A while back I sharpied up the faded NAR patch on my sun cap. Just washed it again the other day and it was a quick job in Woolite. Cap clean again with only a tiny bit of run – took me back 30 years.

Darn sharpie will run, even with a quick coat Testors clear. I now see Future doesn’t fare better,
