Default Quest Q2G2 Igniters

I would be interested in getting the opinions of those who have used these igniters.............are they really worth over a buck apiece? Quest's price is $6.79 plus shipping for a pack of 6. Is there anyone who sells them at a discount from Quest's list price?

Joe

Q2G2's are awesome! If you're lighting clusters, it's the only way to go. They are pricey, but Quest has them on sale a couple times a year, and Hobbylinc sells them for a bit less every day.

I've never had a failure lighting a cluster with them, up to seven motors.

*Just noticed Hobbylinc shows them "out of stock" sorry.*

I agree, very dependable ignition, never had a failure. And with the long leads, can be used on clusters without the need for a clip whip.

I also like the straw that holds them in, much better than the Estes plug, in my opinion. Same as above, they are perfect for clusters. I've only used upto 4 motors, but done it a half dozen times or more and not one failure.

My favorite way to get 'em is to buy bulk Quest motor packs on sale then use Estes igniters in the Quest motors (well-used B6/C6 plugs work fine). Then I have the Q2G2s for clusters. I've never had a cluster failure.

Belleville Hobby has a slightly better price : http://bellevillehobby.com/accessor...5-igniters-6pkg
And has the longer lead 2-packs:
http://bellevillehobby.com/accessor...8-igniters-2pkg

Sonic igniters with 10 inch leads, 4 to a pack @ $4.19 a pack
http://bellevillehobby.com/accessor...igniters-4-pack

Hope this helps...

For a single engine launch I would agree they are overpriced. Estes type ignitors are fine.

But for clusters, or dual deploy charges, you can't beat the Q2G2

I wait for sales and buy the 24 pack

Just wanted to say a quick 'Thanks!' to all of you who posted in response to my request for info on these igniters. I think I'll give them a try for clustering. I'll take the tip offered and wait until Quest puts them on sale. Thanks again, guys.

Beware that they require almost as low a firing current as an electric match. When using an Estes controller just by placing the key in for the continuity light can fire them. Estes controllers should be converted to a continuity LED for low current draw.

I have always thought Estes should make their igniters a little more durable like Quest. Either that or Quest make theirs compatible with Estes controller...
