Q-Modeling Nike X ??
I have a Q-Modeling Nike -X (retro mega) kit that the body tube was damaged on and the nosecone was garbage. The original tube is 24 inches long - I have an extra 18 inch tube and a good nosecone I was thinking about using instead. So basically , I will loose 6 inches of body tube length. That puts it roughly at 39 inches on at 2.6 tube . What are going to be my downsides and what to look out for. I would love to upgrade it to 29mm but think I will keep it at 24mm for now.

You'll have a tough time making it 29mm later. Why not just couple another piece of tube to what you have to make it the proper length?

Its designed as a 24mm now- I considered upgrading it to 29mm but now that I'm loosing that length I'm thinking keep it 24mm. A replacement tube the same length isnt a big deal- I can order one. Was just trying something a little off the beaten path and use the parts I have was all. Andy |

I have to agree with Chadrog.
You'll miss the 6 inches; it just won't look quite right (stubby). I have one, and it flies great with the 24mm mount, but I'm using Aerotech single-use E15's and E30's. The only critique I have is that the original BT is a bit thin-walled for my taste. If you want to fly with 29mm, you might think about upgrading the tube altogether to something a bit more stout. It is very nice when built 'scale.' Allen |

I agree with the others who have posted. Use a full length body tube. You may have stability issues with a shorter body tube as there is quite a bit of structure in the aft end of the rocket.
I have built and flown my Q Modeling Nike-X once. It happened at NARAM-49 with an AeroTech E15-4W motor. That was a nice flight.
