Sorry you Gent's feel that way about NYC. I can't get enough of it! Along with Boston, I can't wait to VISIT it. The history and all the sights and sounds! Every time I go to NYC, I see at least a half a dozen celebs walking down the street. I've been to the Intrepid once back in 2001, two months before the big event. My wife said she wanted to go to the Twin Towers but I said no, they were a target for terrorist and I don't want to be anywhere near them. I reminded her about the '94 bombing attempt which I was there the next day after it happened. Terrorist or not, it still won't keep me away from the big city. I've been to every major city in 46 states and always found something to see or visit.

I was born in Manhattan, and grew up in the burbs. I visit every chance I get. NYC is alive and hopping and happening like just a handful of other cities in the country.

Last time was last summer. My parents, sister's family, and I went on the "Circle Line" tour . . . a very touristy thing to do considering how long we lived nearby (and my parents grew up in NYC). Highly recommended. The tour leaves from the dock right next to the Intrepid museum; I hope to take that in on a future visit.

On-topic: A friend and I went on a tour of the Estes plant in 1990, on the way back from LDRS. I don't remember a thing about the surrounding area. Just a quiet rural town.

Flatiron Building? The granddaddy of skyscrapers.

Nice shot of the Flatiron building. The angle chosen shows how extreme the design is. It's also sharper than either the famed Stieglitz or Steichen shots.

In the Summer of '08 I rode my bicycle cross country. I was tooling through Colorado when I came across a brick building with "Estes" on the front of it. This rocket was mounted out front:

That was the only give-away that it was the Estes HQ. They had rows of stacked white containers out back. Otherwise, nothing to see. Pretty much all by itself in the middle of nowhere. Next town I ran across was Canon City.

As far as NYC, I was there once in the eighties on a photo shoot for my employer. The photographer showed me around. We were very near the Flat Iron building. We went to John Lennon's (supposedly) favorite Chinese restaurant, saw Patti Smith and group at CBGB's and went to a bonafide "speak-easy." Metal door in an alley with sliding eye hole and required password. It was like a no frills casino inside. Most anything you might want was to be had. If you wanted to leave, you had to be shown out and they only did it once—meaning you didn't come back again that night. All-in-all it was a great time. Had a blast.

It helps a lot when you have someone who knows their way around.

I really don't think the volume would be there for a range shop, a launch and or museum.
Estes is a business and they are not open to "visitors".

I would suggest the Intrepid Air & Space museum located in New York, that would be a great spot for a model rocket museum. And, the space shuttle will be on permanent display would also be shocked mid July to draw more visitors.

I disagree. If done properly, it should actually make money. It is a business and the business needs to do more to promote their business and thereby make money.

I would also be shocked if the museum you mentioned would be interested in a model rocket museum.
