Default The Star Wars Universe is OFFICIALLY dead, so say the Box Office

Box office for this weekend:

4.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace
$23.0M

Star Wars Episode one, pulled in $23 Mil this weekend ... not surprised.

George Lucas has destroyed the Star Wars franchise!

Lets see, where do I start:

Jar Jar Binks ... that alone is enough!

Slice Darth Maul in half and throw him down a shaft...WTF?

Let me tell you a story about the day I sat in the back of a GTO and was mesmerized by a then unknown move called, 'Star Wars'. It was the summer of 1977. I had no clue about the movie or what to expect... it was the greatest film I had seen in my short life up to that time. At a drive in theater, in the heat, and I will take the memory to my grave.

The characters, the story, the droids being pulled by cables easily seen in the original release at the Jawa market place ... it stood as the greatest sci-fi I had ever seen until the release of Starship Troopers!

Now look at what Lucas has done, he has taken what was so important and so meaningful and made it into a joke, a filthy inhuman joke! DMMMM him to hell for what he has done!

When I was teen, I could recite the Original Star Wars movie.

"The force is strong in this one"
"These aren't the droids you are looking for"
"Mose Eisley Space Port ... you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy ... we must be cautious"
"Look at the size of that thing..." , "... cut the chatter Red Two (Biggs)"

I didn't need to google the above quotes as they are ingrained into my psyche!

"You're all clear kid, now lets blow this thing and go home!"
"Great shot kid, that was one in a million!"
"Oh, switch off!"

hundreds more, and all now destroyed by George Lucas...

Everyone knows the song about Buddy Holly and Richie Valens and the Big Popper... 'The day the music died'.

Well someone needs to write a song about the day Star Wars died...

May for the Force be with you, always.

$23m is nothing to sneeze at, but it would have done a lot better had Lucas not just re-released the series on Blu-ray just a couple months ago. The movies have saturated the market over the years with multiple VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray releases and Spike TV having marathons. While this movie re-release was only #4, you have to remember that it's already earned nearly $500,000,000 all by itself, not counting DVD and Blu-ray sales.

I agree... something new...

I like "The Clone Wars" on Cartoon Network, for the most part (about the only thing I DO like on there... other than the old Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons!)

Later! OL JR

George was in an interview not long ago, crying that the negative feedback killed making any new movies.

Seems it never occurred to him there might be a reason for the negative feedback...

I saw Star Wars in the Summer of '77 as well. I haven't seen it since, nor have I seen any of the sequels. If I was going to watch one—which would you pick as the best? Or, should I count myself as lucky and just re-watch the original?

Better yet—what is the best space movie of them all? I don't see a lot of movies and I value your opinions.

Seems some have forgotten why George Lucas makes movies- TO MAKE MONEY !!!
That's the BOTTOM LINE....anyhting else is distant secondary and tertiary goals.
With that stated, I don't see anything as being ruined....George is still laughing all the way to the bank...it may be in smaller deposits, but still in the positive. I say he is smart to MILK IT FOR ALL IT'S WORTH !!!!!!
That said, I would like to see 7, 8, and 9 made as well....thought the whole 1, 2, 3 'prequels' totally SUCKED and the whole concept SUCKED.

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, TURMOIL, FIASCOS, and HAVOC !
