Default D Engine in Red Max

I built the Red Max fairly sturdily (epoxy fin fillets, shock cord glued to engine mount and so on. I also used a 24mm engine mount to be able to fire it with a D engine.

Any problems I might encounter?

How high do you think it will go?

Is their a website that will tell you altitude of a rocket with a given engine if you enter the rockets weight?

Thanks,

Bill Kent

Shouldn't be any problem....let 'er rip. I don't think it will even need any nose weight.

I'm not aware of any websites, but you can download a demo of Rocsim that will allow you to put in the rocket's dimensions and it will estimate the altitude. It's available on the Apogee Rockets website.

Hey, I'm cloning a Big Red Max which was a Red Max with an 18" body tube. I used a long engine hook for E-engines and a Semroc ejection baffle. If I can get a calm day the weekend, I'll let you know how it works .

I RocSim'd it and it was over-stable.

I've also been flying a Der Goony Max with a 24mm engine since about 2005. I've had nothing but great flights.

I flew my Goony Max at NARAM 47 on a D12-7.

All I did was change the fins and added a tailcone. Not really goony...more like modern upgrades.

Be preparred for a long walk! It gets some serious altitude!

The Red Max with a "D" engine is usually painted Yellow-Orange and Black and is known as the "Astron Goblin".

I downscaled the Big Red Max to BT-55 and painted it patriotic, hence the Big Red White and Blue Max. It has a 24mm MMT and has flown great on C11's, D12's, and E9's (hanging out the back) with zero nose weight.
