Minotaur 4 launch video!
Hello All,
The ORS-5 satellite was launched aboard a Minotaur 4 rocket from Cape Canaveral tonight, from LC-46 (which was last used to launch Lunar Prospector and ROCSAT-1 aboard an Athena II and an Athena I, back in 1998 and 1999, respectively, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacep...unch_Complex_46 ). Below is a link to an article (with an included launch video) about the ORS-5 mission: https://spaceflightnow.com/2017/08/...-launch-replay/ , and: This was the first launch of a Minotaur vehicle (it used the three stages from a retired Peacekeeper [MX] ICBM, plus two smaller spherical rocket motors as stages 4 and 5) from the Cape (they have flown from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, Wallops Island, Virginia, and Kodiak Island, Alaska). ORS-5 will, from its relatively low 599 km x 604 km equatorial orbit (the Minotaur fifth stage’s main purpose was to reduce its orbital inclination to zero degrees [it achieved 0.02 degrees, which is very nearly perfect]), optically monitor the geosynchronous orbital corridor for debris (and any unknown spacecraft that shouldn’t be there); beyond this, ORS-5’s mission objectives are secret.
