Estes Quark - Another Small Side Project
Now that the FlatCat is done, I have begun work on another small project to fiddle around with alongside the Protostar build.
This is an Estes Quark that was recently given to me in already built condition by a friend. Read about that story here: https://castlerocketeer.blogspot.co...t-windfall.html In its present form, the Quark needs a little work to bring it up to my particular flying standards. The model was painted without any pre-finish on the balsa fins, so that must be remedied. I also intend to apply a more high visibility paint color scheme. This bird is very similar to a Mosquito, so some brighter colors are quite necessary for successful recovery. Stay tuned....

The fins are now properly primed, sanded and repainted with gloss white enamel.
The next step is to get some high visibility color on the model. I'm thinking masking off and painting one side of each fin with fluorescent orange or red.

My suggestions for flying and recovering:
1) Use only 1/4 A engines 2) Make sure the grass is recently mowed 3) Be quiet. You can usually hear them land and then locate the sound 4) Have several observers well back from pad to watch 5) Cloudly days give the best visability 6) Ignore the ejected engine

Those things are what I call "Fire and Forget"; DITCH the 1/4A engine and JAM a C6-7 in it.
If it was "legal" I'd top the C6-7 with an M80.

When in doubt, WHACK the GAS and DITCH the brake !!! Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't ! Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY. ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, TURMOIL, FIASCOS, and HAVOC ! |

Well that's a whole different deal.

Gloss white actually works quite well. And if you don't like it, it makes a good underlayment for the fluorescent colors.

They should make these 'mini' rockets with a mini streamer!
It would still work even with a engine eject I would think! |

Hi, All, Thanks for the responses
I'm definitely not a stranger to flying these 'pop and gone' small birds. I have a Mosquito that I am attempting to set an all time record for launches and successful recovery. To date it has made 11 flights. Here is a link to a post on my blog of a launch session in April 2018 that describes the most recent four flights of the bird; https://castlerocketeer.blogspot.co...april-2018.html
