Ya, that started a month or so ago. I've received a few of them. Unsolicited, of course.

It amused me.

I never caught on to TRF (not registered).
I find all the information/knowledge/history/build techniques I need here and YORF is way more in line with my interests. The only time I go to TRF is when there is big news. |

I got one about a month ago and quickly opted out. Just a list of the threads with the most posts, like word association and other stuff I don't care about but gets lots of posts. Just more annoying rubber stamp marketing that doesn't work. If such practices continue it is a matter of time until they start to loose the high level of activity and superior content they currently enjoy. Will it come here or just disappear, who knows. Or maybe I am completely wrong and the Care Bears will rule.

I'm glad you enjoy YORF, Scott. I've always stated that YORF is not competing with TRF. I run a niche forum for people interested in everything related to the early days of this hobby. TRF covers all aspects of the hobby. The one big difference is I'm not heavy-handed when it comes to non-rocketry related discussions. This is usually not a problem since our niche of the hobby generally draws a more adult crowd. After running YORF for 10 years now there's only one person I've had to ban, after giving him many warnings and second chances over the years.

I couldn't be bothered to recover/remember my password over there, so I just marked their email as spam. 'Twas easier.

I think the "Word Games" thread is there because it gives the anointed a means to smother posts that they don't like. As a countermeasure, I sometimes followup the stupid words with a more "interesting" word in the hope that the entire thread will be locked.
Hasn't worked thus far, but you never know? |

I still have a TRF account, just in case for some reason I really need to post a message there someday. But the email address is set to the one I usually reserve for potential spammers: a Yahoo address I pretty much never look at. And since the new owners early on established a record of lying about their plans and motives, I figured they could not be trusted not to sell the membership to spammers, so I deleted every bit of personal information from my profile other than that spam-dump address.
