Vintage Estes Condor Build
My next build is the Estes Condor. My cousin and I build 2 of these when we were kids. The little glider flew real well but we did not paint the glider. We did paint the rocket and it flew nice with the small engine.

All the balsa has been filled with 4 coats of Balsa Sealer. There sure is a lot of parts.
Fins are drying. All built, waiting for the fillets to dry. Will prime tomorrow, then I have plans so I wont be able to top coat it until Mon. and Tues. Should be done Wed. The little glider is awesome. I built a couple of these when I was a kid and lost one glider. This one glides great without any weight or trimming. |

Tsk, Tsk !
Cheating using fin alignment jigs ? C'mon now, everybody knows real rocket builders need nothing more than a well calibrated eyeball to properly attach fins ! You must be in for re-calibration right now correct ?

To tell you the truth I don't really know how to use the jig. I first glue the fins on by sight and then set them in the jig to dry. The jig is nothing more than a rocket stand. Besides I think the vintage jig looks cool. I could build a jig to hold my rocket, but then I loose the vintage edge. I also use the jig to hold my rockets when applying decals.

I applied one heavy coat of grey primer sanded smooth and a heavy coat of flat white. I only used a few coats of balsa sealer to keep this bird light and the grey primer did a great job of filling where the sealer couldn't. The new Krylon grey primer is great stuff, sand-able after one hour with no clogging and comes out smooth. Also has a recoat anytime window. I don't really care for the new nozzle, seems like I am wasting primer.. This stuff is way better than the old Krylon primer. After one coat of primer and sanding the rocket came out smooth. Tomorrow I will sand the flat white and spray glossy white.

I am almost done. I am leaving tomorrow, but should have this done by next Tues. Balsa sealer and Kylon Glossy white are my friend.

The paint is all done, will apply the decals tomorrow. I like to let the Krylon dry for 24 hours.
