MR #2167 fins
I’m getting ready to mount the fins onto an Estes #2167 Redstone (the version with the slot-mounted, molded fins). My question is: what’s the best adhesive to use in the slots? I’ve built many of these over the years and I’ve had problems with mounting the fins solidly enough. I’ve used Testors styrene cement, CA, epoxy, Ambroid, and Tenax 7r and I’ve never felt the union was secure enough.
Any recommendations? Thanks!

I would "rough up" the plastic that fits in the tube-slots and use 15 or 30 minute epoxy.
Don't use that 5 minute RUBBISH. Epoxy is probably the best for attaching plastic to cardboard. The resin in epoxy soaks into the cardboard, and roughing up the plastic allows the epoxy to "bite" better. Plastic cement in any form is LOUSY for bonding plastic to cardboard.

I discovered this while looking for PETG compatible cement...
...for gluing 3D printed parts together:
https://www.ellsworth.com/products/...lear-5-oz-tube/ I really like this stuff. I has a working time of several minutes, but after 20-30 minutes it will be rock hard, full strength after 24 hours. It doesn't seem to "melt" the plastic like model glue with styrene, but the bonds are very strong. Also, no noxious fumes. I haven't tried it yet for gluing plastic to paper/balsa, but I imagine it would work very well. I'll have to buy a kit with plastic wraps just to try it out. That Apogee Saturn V would look great under the Christmas tree.

Yes, my SOP fpr 2167 fins has always been to rough up the joining surfaces to give the parts some "tooth" and then use 30 minute epoxy for the adhesion. I just didn't know if there was a better way or not.

I'm gonna say Bob Smith Maxi-Cure CA, after using it on the Estes Pro Series E2X rockets. Gives you just enough working time. But yea, epoxy is fine too. Tenax and Plastistruct work, but just not as well as you'd think.
