I'm anxious to hear more about the smaller chute release, although I'm still interested in buying the current model. After dumping a bunch of money on my NSL "Guy's Weekend Funfest", I'd feel too guilty to buy that right now.

Well, maybe if I just bought my wife some flowers ... you know, for no apparent reason, just be be nice!

Odd that the booster motor fits into the upper tube? How do you ever get the upper motor out, assuming it's taped in? I guess a dowel could be used to push it out from the top of the rocket. I'd be worried about charring of the motor end of that upper tube.

The original had the motors aligned by using a short piece of BT-20, centered over the joint between the motors, and taped to the booster motor. I never did this, I just taped the motors together.

Oh wait, I just looked at the parts picture. Looks like a "rivet" or bolt of some sort holds the upper tube to a motor tube? If so, then do you tape the upper stage motor into the motor tube, and then pin it in place with this rivet? Clever!

I talked to Randy about the kit, and he said that the Kit Number included with the hang tag is actually a decal. So, if you want, you can apply that to record which one it is.. I don't know how high the numbers will go (I don't think this is a limited release).

For anyone who is thinking about building this kit:

I'd suggest that you mark the body tube and tube coupler before separating them (they are not drilled in a way that the holes will line up in both possible alignments).

Also don't glue the parachute's knot with CA glue. CA makes fibers brittle (I accidentally dripped some on one of my favorite shirts and learned that the hard way).

I'll extend that to any kind of glue.

While I almost always put some glue on (permanent) knots, I am always very careful to keep the glue confined to the knot, and not let it migrate or wick into the string.

The Lil' Augie is now fully assembled, filletted, sealed, sanded, and has been shot with gray primer and then white primer. I'll hit it with 0000 steel wool tomorrow. As for the color, the kit's package shows it in orange but I'm going to let "The Vixen" choose the color(s) from my vast collection of rattle cans. The ONLY limitation: nothing too dark--since all of the decals are black.

So, you decided not to follow the instructions... They recommended that you paint the core before gluing on the shroud. I'm curious why.
