I echo that! I knew there was widespread poverty in India, but I didn't realize the depth and pervasiveness of it. Your "on-the-ground" photo-documentation and commentary illustrated them. There's a country that has high technology, nuclear weapons, long-range ballistic missiles, a bona fide space program (including a successful unmanned lunar mission), and yet tens of millions of beggars live on the streets--and most of the people apparently don't mind this state of affairs because the beggars are untouchables and other low-caste members who are unworthy of their sympathy... |
