rosko_racer's Saturn V
MOTOR MOUNT:
Decided to build my Saturn V as a 5-engine cluster with the F-1 Bells on. It is a 24mm core with capped 18mm outer motor mounts (MTs). Added a 5-inch BT50 to extend the central 24mm motor and the 18mm MMs are 6 inches long. Covered the inside of the 18mm BT with 30 minute epoxy because I will use booster motors here. Engine hooks and blocks are from SEMROC. All engines will hang 0.5 inches pass the BT to keep the heat away from the bells. The centering rings from the kit were modified to handle this arrangement. Right now it weights 3.5 ounces.
FINS:
I built fins to replaced the original ones with 0.03 inch styrene plastic. I followed Bravo52's thread to make them and are very sturdy. Average weight is 3.1 grams each.
MORE MODS:
I am planning to reinforce the fairings, modify the recovery system, and remove some of the details on the wraps: the air scoops on the wraps are from an earlier Saturn V design but were not on the functional rockets. A friend of mine recently suggested to make an internal launch lug like he did on his... it is an idea I am seriously contemplating.
