Baby Bertha Cluster (was Big Bertha Cluster)
What the title says. I'm considering building a Big Bertha as a dual 18mm cluster. I haven't built a cluster in 25 years, and I think I only flew the first one once. I'm thinking about putting a Sunward mount into an otherwise stock Big Bertha.
... or a Baby Bertha. I might never see it again, though ... |
Nah, that should work fine. If you go with a three x18mm cluster you'll have a Ranger.
Sort of. ;) |

Or you could go nuts and build the "Dolly" (don't ask... LOL) As shown here from an old Pearl River convention Here's a picture of the tail end of Dolly Bertha ahhh, to be young, foolish and still have hair... LOL |
I'm thinking strongly about a two-engine cluster in a Baby Bertha. Sunward makes nice engine mounts, but buying just one and paying shipping and handling doesn't make much sense. Outside of Estes and Quest kits, I can't get much in the local area... certainly not parts. JonRocket carries the Sunward parts but does not carry Estes rockets... gah.
So I guess I need to figure out a few more things that I need from JonRocket. That will hold up my build for a while. Or I could roll my own cluster engine mount... |
FlisKits also sale’s Cluster Motor Engine-Mounts as will as Canted Cluster Motor Mounts, see EMK2-CL002 motor mount for a BT-60 body tube.

Yeah, I see that.
If I could just find someone who would sell me a Baby Bertha and a BT-60 cluster engine mount in the same order... I'll probably buy the kit at Hobby Lobby, actually. Love those 40% off coupons. Which probably means I'll roll my own cluster engine mount, since I can't buy them locally and I can't justify $6.00 in shipping/handling for a $4.00 part. |

Cut your own. They don't have to be perfect. They just have to fit. |
I suppose. Anybody have a pattern?
... yes, I'm lazy. |

How about an engine mount program? Click below and look for "Engine Mount/Bulkhead Template Generator". It's free. http://www.rocketreviews.com/tools.shtml |
Excellent, thanks!
