something that happened to me at my local hobby store.....

I was shopping at my local hobby store looking for a nice piece of balsa for a boom, when one of the store clerks came up to me. Now I've been shopping at this store for several years now, and they all know me as one of the rocket guys, so he felt comfortable talking to me about this.

Evidently the FBI had been in the store at the beginning of the month. There had been concerns about extremists wanting to purchase large quantities of rocket engines. They had just popped into the store to ask the guys if they'd seen anyone.

Now about a week and a half later, 3 foreigners came into the store wanting to purchase engines and then ship them over seas. They were trying to get composite engines and then ship them back. Of course the guys at the counter wouldn't let them ship over seas, and the shoppers were angry about it, but it just makes me ask the question, is this happening to any other stores around the country? Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

If there is really an ongoing FBI investigation, then you should not compromise it by posting about it on a public forum. you should contact the agents directly (via the contact info or business card they SHOULD have left with the store clerk) and talk to them. If they need to post a public appeal on a public forum, they will do so.

That's interesting. Thanks for the heads-up.

I would not wish what rokitflite said on ANYONE other than terror cells.
Letting him lecture cells about motor shipment could eliminate the entire world terrorist problem by literally boring them to DEATH. Actually it would not work as after listening two minutes they would ask him "Don't you have something MUCH better to do ?" :chuckle:

One diatribe about the legality/illegality of motor shipment is MORE than ANYONE should endure if it is coming from ANYONE other than the shipment COMPANY.

Now allowing SHADY looking characters to ship AP internationally or even selling motors to them; that is an entirely DIFFERENT story and we ALL know it.

I wrote a very long response to this and then deleted it because of how ridicules I sounded. Let’s just say I'm a little skeptical of the story.....there are probably a lot more details that are not being told (to the original poster). Kind of sounds like a college prank. The timing of the two parties is too good. I would ask the HS owners (clerks) this question; "what if the bad guys came in first and not the good guys, would you have sold them the motors? Now what if they looked middle-eastern?"

See how the last part was not in the original story. I think it was set up to let our minds run wild!

This is not a knock against A Flying Monkey. He is just relaying the story as he was told it.....

Foreigners, huh? Wow, that's scary!

(Noting that in the group of engineers and designers I've been working with on my current project, 5 were born in the USA and 7 were not.)
