Estes Beta Booster

If any body has the Booster for an Estes Beta two-stager but has lost the sustainer, I would be happy to offer the booster a good home. I have a rescue sustainer and I thought it'd be fun to rescue a booster too.

I know I could just make one, but I thought I'd try this first.

I have yet to lose my Beta because I've only boosted it with my special 1/4A3-0 and 1/2A3-0 motors. I like the idea that you want the complete model to be a rescue.

I still have plenty of 1/2A3-0 motors, but have never seen a 1/4A3-0

That's because tbzep Industries is a boutique manufacturer, exclusive access only. ;)

I have two rescued Beta rockets, both complete. Ish. I've flown the older one several times, but the second one has been sitting loaded and ready to fly for a year+. There have been major changes at B6-4 Field of late. The cut down the bulk of the trees that surrounded the field out near US 27 and Woodfill Avenue. How DARE they not offer me the nose cones back! ;)

Does this mean that it may be re-christened the C6-5 Field?

I suspected those 1/4A3-0 motors may have been a tbzep industries ltd. product.
Any relation to Zorin industries or the Drax Corp ?

Newbomb Turk 04-12-2019 08:51 PM

The Drax Corporation rules.

Personally, I suspect Yoyodyne. ;) :D

I prefer POGOdyne over Yoyodyne.
They are a subsidiary of Powr-Prang Corp.

tbzep Industries 1/4A3-0T staging before leaving the rod.

My first ever 2-stage flight was around 1970, using a ½A6-0S, IIRC, and it was barely off the rod when it staged, or so it seemed, all those years ago :)

That said, having learned more about the physics of flight, it's not the altitude gained from the 1st stage burn so much as it's the momentum imparted by it. For example, on a TOW missile, the booster motor does little more than get the rocket out of the launch tube, but it gets it moving.
...
In the interest of staging, a ¼A booster definitely appeals to me, but I doubt it has much mass market potential :(

Let's just say I haven't been approached for mass production. :chuckle:

When we are dealing with something as small as a 1/4A booster, a tiny amount of weight will make a difference. It's been over 10 years, but to the best of my recollection, when I made a test flight with the Beta still completely naked, it staged above the rod. The small weight gain from primer and paint made a huge difference. It halved the altitude. :chuckle:
