Scout 2 SLV (links)
Hello All,
I came across some material for the proposed-but-not-flown (except for at least one "basic" test vehicle) Scout 2 (also called the Advanced Scout), an Italian-led development that they wanted to launch from their equatorial San Marco platform (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Marco_programme ) off the coast of Kenya. It was a Scout G-1 with two added Stage 0 Ariane 3 booster motors, strapped to opposing sides of the Stage 1 Algol, "Titan IIIC/D/E-style," with a Mage 2 motor replacing the Altair Stage 4 rocket motor. Also: India's space agency, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), built and flew both a very Scout-like vehicle called the SLV-3, and a very Scout 2-like vehicle called the ASLV (Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle). Below are links to information on all of these satellite launch vehicles: Scout 2: http://digitalcommons.usu.edu/cgi/v...ontext=smallsat Scout 2: http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_lau/scout-2-tv.htm Advanced Scout (has Advanced Scout drawing, and Scout 2 "basic" test vehicle photo at bottom of "screen-page"): http://www.astronautix.com/a/advancedscout.html ASLV (Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle, see: http://www.google.com/search?ei=aU3.....0.1MTCE0oeUe8 ) SLV-3 (very similar to the LTV Scout, see: http://www.google.com/search?ei=4k3...1.0.mznjLK_nB9k ) I hope this material will be helpful. |
The NASA fact sheet says the Scout 1st stage was developed from Jupiter Senior and Polaris. I've never seen any reference of Jupiter Senior, and we all know the Jupiter missile was the Army's first liquid fueled MRBM along with its Thor sibling in the AF. The Scout was a solid booster. What is the "Jupiter Senior"?
