Some Old Centuri Rockets

Hey there:

Just joined and thought I'd fill you in on some projects underway. After my son got interested in rockets, I dug out some of my old centuri kits from ages ago. There was nothing in great shape, so some googling led me here and to Jim Z's site. A few weeks later and voila!

Finished:
X-24 Bug
Sky Devil

Finished except for decals:

Vector V
Jayhawk
Excalibur
Scram Jet
Star Trooper
Stiletto

Under construction:
Nomad
Bandito
Magnum Jayhawk
Arrow 300
Hummingbird
Two Bitz
Vulcan

Planned:
Flutterby
Groove Tube
Moonraker
Satellite 62SL
Fireflash
Nova
Black Widow
Mach 10
Laser X

I'll upload some pictures once I have more of them finished!

Would be nice to see some pictures. I am almost done collecting my Vintage Estes rockets and soon will be working on collecting vintage Centuri kits.

Well, just put the decals on last night for the Vector V, Excalibur, Star Trooper, Scram Jet, Long Tom.

I'm waiting to print another decal sheet in white for the Jayhawk and Stilleto (I want to fill the sheet before printing)

And..... thanks to Jonrockets.com, I've just bought a Mars Lander, Laser X, The Point, and Taurus. Add these to the "planned" list.
(My wife is gonna kill me....)

Arrow 300 is underway - I'm actually re-building from an old one - it was in rough shape, so I'm re-doing all the fins out of 1/16 ply instead of cardboard.

Stilletto is just missing a nose cone (parts order on the way from Semroc)

Will try to get pictures up tonight!

OK, here is a picture, finally.

Recent builds from plans (from left to right)

Jayhawk (hiding, because it has no decals yet)

Stiletto (missing nose cone)

Long Tom

Scram Jet (what is wrong with it? It's built like my original - messed up)

Star Trooper

Excalibur

Arrow 300 undergoing major rebuild

Original models (have all re-flown for first time in 30 years in the past couple of weeks)

SST Shuttle

Mercury Redstone

Welcome back to the hobby and YORF. I see you've already found that the bug bites much harder the 2nd time

How are you doing your white decals? You can get very nice ones from http://www.excelsiorrocketry.com .

I have a laserjet compatible white decal sheet. (can't remember what brand..) for white decals like the Jayhawk. I also have some trim monokote - I used this for the Stiletto white patches, and it seems to work great. The decal sheets are only $2.50 locally, and I was able to print decals for 6 models on one.

Missing in pics: X-24 Bug - printed from internet, then glued to board. It looks great, and flys just like I remember - randomly.

Sky Devil - made by my son when I had his friends over to build. This is a great model for kids, since it comes with many fin patterns and they can customize it.

Bug question

Would anyone know the type of engine tube used? Copied the plans from the JImZ's site but cannot find info on the engine tube type, length and nose cone. Appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

Centuri used Series 7 tubes for motor mounts. I'll have to check at home for the length and nosecone type.

BTW, I used an Estes Yankee for the nosecone and motor tube of my clone. However, I'll see if I can dig up the Centuri/Semroc part.

Centuri's standard engine mount tube was a 3" long ST-7. The standard thrust ring (not used in the X-24 Bug) was a half inch long, rather than the quarter inch thrust ring used in Estes standard 2.75" engine tubes. Centuri rockets tend to be "overbuilt" compared to Estes rockets.
