Vintage Estes Javelin & Flea Build
 

My next build is 2 rockets that came in one bag. Look simple and should be fun. Old kit, but the parts are in pretty good condition.

Yay!!! One of my favorites! I think the Javeli/Super Flea combo was my 3rd or 4th rocket kit. I still have a warm spot in my heart for them today :) . You will be doing some sanding to make that Super Flea nose cone look like the picture :rolleyes: The attached photo is my SECOND build of the combo... When I knew a little more about what I was doing...

Both rockets are built, now I will apply three coats of balsa sealer and begin priming. The Super flea required some sanding of the nose cone for a streamline fit. The Javelin is made from 2 body tubes joined with a coupler. I put extra glue on the coupler so it oozes out when the body tubes are put together, then smooth it our with my finger. This creates a seamless joint.

Finished both rockets today and they are ready for flight. The hardest part was trying to figure out what color orange Estes used. In some catalogs these kits look orange and in others they look red. Estes says to use "International Orange" so I used Testors thinking that was the closest thing, oh well. I can use the spray paint on my next build, the Estes Rogue.

Very nice finish, Scigs. You don't sound happy with the colors, but they look very nice.

Yea, the colors are growing on me.
