Cloned Estes #1271 Renegade

Finished this one a couple of days ago. Always a favorite. Such a basic design but it has such a cool look. I think it is the large kit name and the stars, gotta have stars! Great decals from Excelsior.

That was my first D engine rocket. When it met its demise, I saved a fin so I'd be able to reproduce it. Never did, though. I bought a set of laser cut fins from Semroc a couple of years ago, so I'll get around to cloning it one of these days. Strangely, it seemed so much bigger back then. |
I love the Renegade - one of my favorite 24 mm rockets!
Nice build! |
I had a Renegade. I don't know how many times I launched it, but the last time was on a Composite Dynamics E motor. Weathercocked and disappeared on me.
Have fun with yours! |
I think this was the first rocket I cloned that was E engine capable. Flew great, but had a tendency to lose fins.

Ordering some of the internal tubes and the short BT-60 for mine. Have Semroc fins and a Super Alpha nose cone ready to go.
This is one f those "Never had its," but I really like the look. Also, it appeals to the Georgia boy in me for some reason. |
Nice looking Renegade.
A great flier on Estes E9 and E12 engines, along with the full gamut of Aerotech 24mm D through F composite reloads. I last flew mine on a RMS24 F24 reload. The F24 puts it WAY up there. |
I flew the whole page 22-23 of the 1977 Estes Catalog on this day:

Nice pics, Bill.
I need to build a Sky Raider clone. Just scored a mint vintage Astron Scrambler kit on eBay for only $51.00 a couple days ago. Don't know if it will get built but it may. |
Very Cool!
