Scale V1 model ?
Hello from sunny (?) UK
Having now built several scale model rockets (Space X falcon, Nike X, Amraam-120A, Bullpup, Mercury Redstone etc) I have often wondered about the possibility of constructing a scale model of the infamous V1. Although this country suffered the most from this weapon's destructive capabilities, my interest in it is purely of a technical nature, and the possibility of constructing a replica of this device intrigues me to say the least. Any suggestions and help with this project would be gratefully received. Bill |

To help balance out the Axis, here's a shout-out for the Wooden Wonder (DeHavilland Mosquito) that took out numerous V-1's without firing a single shot!

I'm trying to remember. Did they fly next to them then tip them over with their wings? |

Others did it, but the twin Mosquito was well suited for the role with a couple Merlins for closing speed and a nice big wing to influence the V-1 into a spin. Besides, it's nice to recognize a British design considering the V-1 was always aimed at them. |

The Spitfire Mk XIV with Griffon engine, Tempest, Mosquito, P-47 (lightened and souped up) and P-51 all were sent up to thwart the V-1. There's a famous extremely grainy image from the ground of a Spitfire lining up to tip a V-1.
The Tempest took out 638 V-1's, Mosquito 623, Spitfire XIV 303, Mustang 232. (from wiki) |
