Dumber than dumb

FWIW, that is a very rare item.
I'd love to see the instruction sheet, and also get the "specs" so I could try to recreate it. |
What am I missing- these show up on eBay fairly often don't they?

You may be thinking of the LIA-77 which is the smaller -- and much more common -- brother to the LIA-100 'heavy duty' launcher. I think this is the first time I've ever seen the larger LIA-100 on eBay. This is the one that was recommended by Centuri for their large-scale line like the MiniMax and Enerjet stuff. I don't know just how much bigger than the LIA-77 it is, but the legs and such look almost identical.....the 100 is just 'bigger'. I suppose the two used the same blast deflector/ignitor lead assembly, but I'm not sure on that. I'd like to get a trace of the legs on the 100.... I have a couple of the LIA-77's, but I've never even seen a 100 in person ever. Earl |
Yeah, I knew it was the HD. Just didn't realize it was $190+ type rare.

My bidding stopped at $125. More than that is just insane.

To be honest, I was surprised as well to see it go for that final bid. I too did not know it was quite in that rare range, though I knew I'd personally never seen one come up for bids. Then again, if an item turns out to be 'just the item' a particular collector is looking for ("Ahhhh.....the only item in my Centuri launch gear collection I don't have!"), then they are probably willing to pay a chunk to get it. GH, I'm about like you. I was gonna go maybe up to $150 for it, but I never even bid on it once it got up to the $193 range sometime yesterday. In similar 'news', the Centuri Power Systems set and the Centuri Eagle 1999 set (both offered by Penn Valley Hobby Center, I think....same who listed this launcher) went for over $200 each right about the same time this eve. I never look on eBay for anything unless people point out something unusual, so I really don't know what is rare or not.
The only time I've ever seen that big pad was in the Centuri catalog, so seeing evidence of one in the field is a new thing to me! (The only time I've seen the smaller Centuri tripod was on top of a cabinet in the "science classroom" in my elementary school. Never got used, as far as I know.) |
Penn Valley Hobby Center seems to have a TON of vintage stuff that they trickle onto ebay.
Their ebay handle is pvhc. I keep an eye on them for goodies, but they often sell for prices I see as Stratospheric. Glad they get it, but I certainly won't pay it.... |
Earl, I still have an original Centuri LIA-100 wood launcher and the original Instruction sheet.
