I love it when we have a new member of the R-7 club. And the drawings are great, too. That's a neat size. Its a shame we haven't yet located a supply of BT-58 tubing as the last time I was at Semroc they seemed to be out. Edit: they've got some now. |

Yeah, I really hope somebody picks up the slack in regards to Semroc's tube selection...it will get harder to make scale rockets without all the sizes to choose from :eek: I understand and really feel for Sheryl and Bruce. Carl and his family ran a real first class operation. |

You may want to take this opportunity to get some couplers for that BT-58 while you can. When I last communicated with Sheryl in late March, they had over 300 in stock for $1.20 each. Bill |

I had just started working on a larger R-7; in my case, I was thinking one inch to one meter scale (1/39.37). If you take the Minakov drawing and read the millimeters as inches and decimal places you get a pretty good size R-7. The math is super easy - just count over three places (from the right) and put a decimal-- there's your dimension. For instance, the booster diameters are 2680 mm so its 2.680 inches or BTH-80 size. Or, even better, the core is 2050mm, so in my scale, its 2.05 inches or Series 20 tubing. Attached is a fairly high-res, version of the Minakov drawing. I think its the best all-around drawing. I have a higher res version if anyone wants it, just PM me. |
