Honest John MGR-1(M31) vs MGR-1A(M50)

My son brought home the new Honest John kit today. From the artwork, it looks like the M50 round. The old Maxi-Brute is the M31 round. Since there is a poll on Pershings, I didn't want the HoJo to be left out. :D

Purely asthetic question, nothing to do with performance. Do you like the M31 round or the M50 round better? I like the M31 round and would be tempted to modify the kit to that version.

Actually, the M31 version of the Honest John is MGR-1A and the M50 version is MGR-1B. The xxR-2 was used for the AIR-2 Genie nuclear air-to-air rocket. I actually like the MGR-1A better because it is fairly easy to build a scale model without having to worry about having to add weight in the nose.

Oops. Serves me right for posting without reading to refresh my memory.

I fixed the post, but I can't change the poll.

And here I was trying to figure out how to turn the surviving nose cone from my Maxi HoJo into an M50 round. (the body core-sampled beyond repair; shattered fins and tail cone). This has been on the back burner for a while, but one of these days . . . .

Oh Well,

I know I'm on the losing end of this poll. M50s for me.

I sell a lot of the M-50 Estes #1919 clones but my favorite is the original Estes K-27 M-31 with the B/W test scheme. I enjoy the card work to build the spin motors and shroud.

I like them both, but the M31 (as represented by Estes K-27) is what got me into this hobby back in 1967!

I vote for the Genie.
Not being able to do that, I also vote for the black/white M31 test round configuration represented by the small Estes K-27.

I'm "old school" as I built the Centuri kit back in the day, so M31 for me.

If you want to read the history of the M31, here is a link to DL a 252 pp doc (~ 10 MB).

Well, I voted by M31. Which is why I modeled my clone that way...

We (and one other poll responder so far, making it a troika) will die proudly together, comrade! :-)
