What the heck is this? Star Blazer #1444? Huh?
|
1444 is a Estes Starter kit with the Star Blazer rocket. Here is a link to the Estes instructions, which should give you an idea what it is:

It must not have been in a catalog or I would have included it in the Estes Starter kit list.

I haven't found it in a catalog, yet. I was expecting it to be a Boy Scout Bulk Pack or some such that perhaps would never have made it into a catalog. The instructions for this Star Blazer look like they're from the '80s Sweet Spot.
It was in a starter kit with a Yankee? Hmmm. Thanks for the replies. |
The Star Blazer set definitely wasn't in a catalog. Judging by the starter set number and also the number on the back of its instruction sheet, it seems to have been released around the same time as the Discovery starter set which was introduced in the 1986 catalog. Someone might want to contact the ebay seller and see if the seller has any history on the item. It might have been a Canada only set.

Craig McGraw: "Star Blazer Plus One" Starter Set: A starter set which slipped under our radar until someone put one up on eBay… Contains the #1381 Yankee kit, and a restyled #1923 Cougar. The launch controller is a blue-plastic Electron Beam (the kind you could take apart with a screwdriver), and the pad is the Porta-Pad II. I am dating the set between 1990 and 1991, for the following reasons: 1. The Porta-Pad II was introduced in 1989. 2. The yellow "zebra-stripe" Electron Beam controller became standard in 1993. 3. The Yankee kit has the old-style paint and decal pattern; the new "overspray" pattern was introduced in 1993. 4. The "generic" range box is first seen in the 1990 catalog, and disappears by 1993. 5. 1992 is the last year the majority of model rockets in the catalog are of the traditional craft type; the plastic-finned, bright-colored, more-toy-than-hobby types start showing up in this catalog, but dominate the 1993 and later catalogs. |
To me it looks a lot like the Yankee Clipper rocket included in the Estes Space Program Membership kit.

That's what I thought. I went looking for the Yankee Clipper and found this as a neighbor on the kit page. |
I saw this when I clicked the ebay link.

Were those for use in a baking soda type plastic rocket? |
