Actually my entry is the second try for the design I chose. The first was built pretty much exactly to scale and it was horribly unstable. My second attempt is slightly off scale and flew beautifully until it hung up on the launch rod and crashed rather badly on the fifth flight. It's in a pile awaiting repair and will fly again. I've repaired one of the pods and have to make a whole new bottom fin for the last pod. It's such a nice-looking rocket I just can't bear to see it not fly again.

BTW, I set the deadline for entries for the contest to July 1 - a longer time than for most contests - because I realized that it's quite a challenging task to design, build, and fly a rocket based on one of the exotic designs. I don't think I'd do very well if I entered the contest!

There are a few people at local launches I attend who have designed and built rockets comparable to the ones required by the contest. I'm always amazed by their skill and imagination.
