I have a k29 saturn b1 kit from 1975 for sale. It is in very good condition and has all the parts and instructions. this is a skill level 5 kit and makes a very nice rocket. it uses a cluster of 4 c6-3 engines for launch and 3 paracute recovery. Very cool rocket. I can send more pics to your email address via zip file.

Is there a laser cut balsa for the built up fins available for this kit. I have a Kosroc clone in need of these fins.

The KosRox Saturn 1B clone is the same size as the Semroc kit,Carl might have the fin set.

Semroc part number is FS-1. I had gotten a set to replace the ones I took out of a kit while we were building the kits for the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 7 flight.

I think I'm misunderstood

I wanted to know if Carl@semroc or someone else makes laser cut parts of the fins on the original Uprated Saturn 1B like the kit from 1975 era. I have the solid balsa sheet fins from the Kosroc kit, but I want to spend all the time it took to build them up and fold up the #110 card stock paper fins! All eight of them! Yikes!

See pics below:

Dan,

Those fins are really not very hard to build. Just make sure you have not been drinking.....

The SEMROC FS-1 fin set for the Saturn 1B is the "skin over laser-cut balsa bits" like the original kit. If you have any questions please contact the fine, friendly folks at SEMROC. As I said in my post, I had ordered a second set to replace ones I had to take out of one of the SEMROC Saturn 1B kits.

Had a chance to pull out my left-over parts from the SEMROC Saturn 1B that I had raided. I had ordered replacement parts to make it whole.
For the built up fins you do need the SEMROC FS-1 laser cut balsa set. It has two eighth inch sheets with fins and a 1/16th inch sheet with the balsa parts for the built-up fins. You also need the 1KS-1S shroud set that includes the skins for the built-up fins. I was confused by the on-line instructions since they called out both items each linked to a fin.
I apologize for my earlier insistance that you just needed the one item. It has been a couple of years since the build.

I too have a Kosrox Saturn 1B in storage...somewhere.

The Semroc Saturn 1B kit comes with parts for both the build-up fins and solid fins for those not wanting to go to the trouble. If you can get anyone to admit to taking the easy way out with the fins, you may be able to get them to give you their unused parts.

It never fails to amaze me how Semroc can get such a big rocket to fit into such a small box...

Bill sez: "It never fails to amaze me how Semroc can get such a big rocket to fit into such a small box..."

Which is why my original kit does not have the body tubes in it. The box has original parts, the replacement parts, some built up fins, the SEMROC Apollo capsule kit, and an Apogee Apollo Capsule, but no tubes.

The way they packaged it was a work of art in itself.

Don't know who Art is in this case...

mtbdave3: Is the kit still for sale? Are you asking for private bids? I do not do e-Bay myself, but it seems it is the best place to sell an item like this if profit is the motive.

I can pick it up in late November on my way to/from the Ohio State/Michigan football game...

yes it is still for sale. I don't want to deal with ebay for the sale but would like to use paypal for purchase. I've been offered $100.00 but was waiting to see if someone offered more. This website says they go for an advarge of $172.00 and I would sell it now for $150.00. heres the link to the website... http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/BAR/data1.htm

Here's a thought Dan (no comments please). I have four of the solid Balsa fins left from my Sat 1B. Used the other four for one of my SPEV rockets. Anyway, I would be happy to send them, and you can cut twelve matching, glue them together and sand them to shape. A little bit of work, sure, but it will give you something to do when you are buried under ten feet of snow.....
:p

(serious offer, btw)
