I believe that is one of those boxed kits that Centuri marketed for awhile to department stores and stuff in the early 70's. It was their answer to Estes' Citation line. I think they called it the Stellar line or something like that.

I don't recall the name of the rocket, but Penn Valley Hobby Center sells these from time to time on eBay.

I think it is the Stellar Hercules, Centuri #KD-13.

I always thought it was an underrated kit. Coolant vanes like the Laser-X, complex fin shape, AND another great use for Jay and Bill's Taurus nose cone!

Parts used in the Stellar line were not up to the usual standards for Centuri in my opinion, probably because of the mass market, but a great kit that should not be forgotten.

I didn't even know about the Centuri Stellar product line until about 10-15 years ago.

Once I did, that solved a mystery for me.

Back in 1987-88 when I worked for Lee Piester at a stillborn rocket company called Enertek, I found a box of balsa sheets in the warehouse.

One of the balsa sheets had been die-cut. The fin pattern looked familiar but I couldn't place it. I took the balsa sheet to study.

It turned out that the fin pattern was the same as the Centuri Screaming Eagle model yet that kit had a plastic fin unit.

At some point in the early 1990s, I saw a Centuri ad featuring the Stellar kit line and one of the kits was called the Spartan. Ah, ha, THAT's where this balsa fin sheet belonged.

An old Enertek employee eh? I have a catalog from Enertek that I got in the mail. It features all of those nifty kits that Gary ended up releasing later. I pestered the poor lady who answered the phone there at Enertek every week asking when the kits would be out. The last time I called I got a disconnect notice. I was pretty bummed.

It was a long time before I ever saw any of those rockets again. By then I was building LOC kits instead.

At least I got the cool and probably fairly collectible catalog.

Am assuming, sue to the cone shape and comments re: the Taurus cone - that it's ST13 based ?

Looks like an interesting kit, that nobody's aware of, making it a great clone idea, lol .

We have the laser-cut fins, just not enough time to get them online, yet.
