I seem to have read something about Estes bringing this kit back in 2009...
well, 09' is gone and still nothing. i assume the hold up is testing of some sort.

anybody know the timeline for this showing up in retail stores or web vendors?

What's to test?

It's an old design and an easy clone.

Lead testing, for one. You never know who might want to eat a rocket for launch. ;)

(I misspelled it on purpose, Fred.)

Correct spelling is "dinosaur".

Like Gordon said, it's an easy clone. Semroc has got the parts and Gordon has the decals. I wouldn't wait for Estes on this one.

I'm with you. I hope Estes brings this one back. It can easily be cloned, and as long as you have some decal paper on hand you can print the decals right on your home inkjet or laser printer. I buy my decal paper (white and clear inkjet) from Bel Inc.

The build instructions and decals can be found on Jimz's site: http://www.spacemodeling.org/JimZ/est1335.htm

But I'd like to have the original, or an Estes remake of the original.

I cloned a BBZ about two years ago. I used parts & nose cone from BMS and decals from Excelsior. I also designed and built a booster stage (D12-0) for it.

That BBZ booster looks almost exactly the same as the old FSI booster for the Mach 1 Dart.
Of course that "booster" was just a F100-0 engine with fins glued to it, but the fin shape and overall size look the same.

Or just make your own variant. This is my Der Red Bird Max Zero -- BT-60 with a 24mm MMT.

In-Flight was selling clones not too long go, but apparently he hasn't been active lately. Not sure what the story is there, but the kits were nice. I've got one unbuilt, in the In-Flight package ,and one that is built that I cloned myself. Not hard to do.
