I noticed this beast (http://cgi.ebay.com/Empire-Rockets-Bomarc_W0QQitemZ140319987878QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20abb918a6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50) on Ebay yesterday. I wonder if Bill E is going to want to pick one up for another crack at one...SHould be safer this time around, as the field behind his office is almost completely under water due to recent rains.

I didn't know we had a sub in the Navy called BOMARC. Good mod. :chuckle:

Is it me or does the picture on the box have a tiger stripe paint scheme?

Sure does look like it. I'll have to check my box to see if it is the same way. I've been hesitant to build it due to all the instability issues. Has anyone figured it out yet?

That's a 1/12 scale. Mine was a 1/24. Mine is still a great looker, but we'll keep it at that.

Since the box in question is sitting in my living room, I can comment. :) The box photo does indeed show a funky looking tiger-stripe camo scheme. I don't think I've seen pics of a production Bomarc painted that way, but Vic of "Empire Rockets" may have. I'll zoom and post a closer pic if you guys would like to see it.
As regards stability, there's a big glob of clay in the box (as in BIG glob). No reason it can't be made to fly properly of course, but that's a lot of clay. The other parts look fine ... NC is balsa and very well made. It is slightly hollowed out, though not enough to hold all that clay.

Did anyone get the 1/12 or even the 1/24 scales to fly properly? What was the deal with the stability issues? Curious, in case I'd like to build mine! I have a built NCR version, and I have Mark and Loretta's still in the bag .... waiting ... so there really is no need to move Vic's units up in the build que.

I got one good flight out of mine with a B6-4. Fairly low level, so I switched to a C6-5 for the next flight. Apparently the weight balance is so touchy that this threw everything out of whack. My suggestion for anyone who plans to fly it would be to balance it for one particular motor, and never fly it on anything else.

Built an NCR Bomarc last year and my battle with weight is detailed in the http://www.rocketreviews.com/reviews/all/oop_ncr_bomarc.shtml#SRX page (at the bottom in the "enter a tip" section, with video). By the time you get enough weight in the nose to make it fly straight, you gotta add more motor. Then more weight to compensate for the motor. Then you can only launch it at Tripoli.
