About ten years ago I won an auction of very early rocketry material...............mostly built rockets and such (mainly based on Estes BT-30's and BT-40's). Included in that lot were two built parachutes made from Estes PM-1 parachute kits. Now, I'm sure most of you veterans are aware of Estes PM-2................a square yard of black parachute material for making your own parachutes. But how many of you have ever seen a PM-1 kit? It was a 10" square of red parachute material, enough to make a single small 'chute, and it came with four 3/4" tape discs.............but no shroud lines! A really rare item! In fact, I don't have a copy of the Estes 631 catalog, but I believe this item had already disappeared from the Estes product line by the time that catalog was published in 1963 (if anyone has a copy, please check this out for me). It definitely appeared in the 261 catalog from 1961.

I have placed one of these two rare 'chutes in YORF auctions in support of the Rocket Grandpa medical fund. Every penny of the proceeds of this auction will go to help pay James' medical bills. Please take a look at my auction and consider adding this rare item to your collection with a generous bid. After clicking on 'AUCTIONS' at the top of the YORF home page you may have to register to view or bid (if you haven't already done so).
