I'm in the process of cutting out parachutes for the Nike Hercules kits.
My wife says that she'll sew 'em if I cut them out.
I was looking at just round canopies but that design, without the gores just flat parasheets to make them hemisherical, seems like an awful waste of material.
I came up with a "modified" design. Not the full 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 like most X form chutes.
Instead I went with a 1/4, 1/2, 1/4 design.
They will have 8 shroud lines (4 pairs) and no spill hole. I don't think spill holes are needed on X-form chutes.
Does this look like it will work out to you guys? :confused:
How long should the shroud lines be for this size?
I have a lot of yellow ripstop but a bunch of other colors too. So the main part will be yellow and the smaller sections will be...purple (cool looking), red, blue or green.
I won't cut anything until I know more.
Of course I could alway just make a few and launch some rockets to see what they do. ;)
