A couple of years ago I drew up a plan for the Star Wars Y-Wing, and now I would like to build it. I do not have Rocket Sim, so I will build a prototype and see how that works. Here are the two I designed. The first one is a longer version that I think would be more stable, the second is a shorter version to look more like the Y-Wing. I would prefer the second one if it comes out stable. I will also post this on Rocketryforum for advise.

Here is a side by side.

The more I look at the design, the more I think it will not be stable without adding fins to the main Bt vertical to the pods, and that is why I probably scrapped this idea sometime back.

Even the Estes RTF Y-Wing had clear plastic fins on the back of each engine pod. IIRC, the one flight that I have seen was okay until the shock cord broke.

So what has happened to this build?

I have it 1/2 built and will post pictures. I decided to add small fins for stability

Are you using clear fins or balsa?

I don't think it will make much difference. If they're small enough they should just look like part of the rocket. Most people haven't made a detailed study of the Y-Wing. ;)
And you can always paint them with clearcoat if they're too noticeable. :D
